Speed Tables have arrived!

Great news! On Friday, October 18 from 7:00 AM until 5 PM speed tables will be installed on Riverside Drive.  The roadway will be closed for a short distance between Norwood Avenue and Federal Street.  There will be detours in place.  Police officers will be present and emergency services have been notified.

The installation of speed tables has been a 10-year effort, and we are hopeful that it will slow traffic down on Riverside.

So after Friday be sure to allow yourself and extra 10 to 20 seconds to get to work, any appointments, etc!

Save the Date! Ward 5 Candidate Forum this Tuesday, Oct. 15th

The BSVA will host a candidate forum on Tuesday, October 15th. The forum will take place in the Little Theater at the Northampton High School starting at 7pm.

The ward 5 city council candidates will debate from 7 to 8 pm; the school committee candidates (ward 5 and at-large) will take the stage — and your questions — from 8 to 9 pm. We hope to see you there!

BSVA Leadership Transition: A Call for New Ideas and Volunteers

After several years of dedicated service, BSVA President Jeff Dawson and Vice President Regine Spector will both be stepping down in the coming months. We thank them for all of their hard work!
As with past transitions, the leadership change is inspiring the BSVA Board to revisit our role in the neighborhood, and to reassess how we can best serve the community. From forums on important issues such as construction and traffic calming, to social events that bring neighbors together, our ultimate goal is to make Bay State Village an engaged and connected community. But we are always open to new ideas for new initiatives, events, and suggestions. And because these efforts all take time and energy, we hope that some of you will be excited to work to making these events and initiatives a reality!
We invite you to join us for our BSVA meeting on Tuesday, March 27, 6pm, at the Nonotuck Community School, 221 Riverside Drive. We will dedicate the meeting to brainstorming ideas for new events, new leaders and new directions for the BSVA. If you have been thinking for a while about getting involved in any capacity of coming to a meeting, there could not be a better time.
To help us prepare for the meeting, we’d love to hear from all of you, especially if you won’t be able to make it on the 27th.We put together a brief survey that will help us get a sense of what you think about the BSVA’s current work, what you think would be helpful for the association to do, and your vision for the neighborhood! We will be sending a link out to the Google Group, but you can also access the survey HERE

20th Annual Source to Sea Clean Up

Friends and Neighbors,

This Saturday from 10-2. We’ll meet in front of The Cutlery Building. Let’s clean our beloved Mill River, a tributary for the CT River. My goal is to clean from Maines Field to Federal St.!

Mark your calendar for September 24th to take part in the Connecticut River Watershed Council’s 20th annual Source to Sea Cleanup. The Source to Sea Cleanup is a yearly trash cleanup of the Connecticut River and its tributaries all along the four-state basin (NH, VT, MA, CT). In 2015, more than 2,300 volunteers pulled over 50 tons of trash from over 169 miles of river banks and waterways. You can help protect our water resources and be a part of this fun and positive event by registering with our group!  For more information on the Source to Sea Cleanup and how you can get involved, visit CRWC’s website at www.ctriver.org/cleanup.

Let me know if you are interested in helping out!

Best,

Jeff
